►  Tributes paid to couple who died in Gravir

Police have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances involved in the deaths of a husband and wife who were found dead outdoors in Lewis.

Donald, 73, and Maureen Macmillan,67, were discovered outside their home in Gravir in freezing conditions on Friday.

Detectives assisted by a specialist forensic team from the mainland carried out a full investigation.

They confirmed the deaths “are not being treated as suspicious.”

Detective Inspector Richard Baird said: "The tragic and untimely deaths of Mr and Mrs Macmillan have understandably shaken the local and wider communities of the Western Isles and our sympathies extend to everyone who knew the popular and highly respected couple.

“Officers would like to thank members of the local community for their support and co-operation during the investigation."

Reports have been submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Police officers attended the scene thinking there was just one casualty and were shocked to discover the couple lying dead near each other.
