Councillors may let the grass grow under their feet by implementing a reduced mowing service on sports pitches and amenity areas.

Some £25,000 could be saved this year by introducing longer intervals between grass-cutting visits.

A council report highlights: "This may affect sports activities.

Not only would delayed visits make the grass areas look untidy it could also affect the safety of area, it is suggested.

The report says there is an "option within the current grounds maintenance contract to provide a reduced service to the maintained sites.

"To implement would be a matter of discussion with the contractor and site owners to agree."
