Grant for breast cancer support group            15/9/14

NHS Western Isles has awarded £10,000 to The Lewis and Harris Breast Cancer Support Group (LHBCSG) to enhance the services it provides in supporting island residents affected by breast cancer.

Convenor of the group, Mary Macleod, said: “This money will now be used to implement health and wellbeing courses for those people and also to provide complementary therapy sessions on a monthly basis. Plans are already in place for this service.”

The LHBCSG has worked in partnership with NHSWestern Isles over the years to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, to support health promotion initiatives and most recently to promote the national ‘Detect Cancer Early’ campaign.

NHS Western Isles Chief Executive, Gordon Jamieson, said: “The LHBCSG works side by side with NHS Western Isles to support people in the Western Isles affected by breast cancer and we hope that this grant will go some way towards enabling members to provide the services and support that they feel would be of benefit to local people affected by breast cancer.

“Members of the group have been continually enthusiastic and supportive of NHS breast cancer awareness campaigns and they have always been more than willing to work jointly with us to highlight important health and wellbeing messages to the public.”
