Isle of Harris Guides and Rangers have taken part in a shore clean-up of Loch Roag. The Girl Guides swept Reef Beach and its shoreline for litter to contribute to the two day effort made by local businesses and organisations who regularly use the loch.

Girl Guides join shore clean-up

18 May 2016

Volunteers came together from various groups and companies which use the sea loch while the comhairle provided protective kit and equipment.

Six skips were filled with rubbish.

It is hoped that more areas will be targeted as a regular, ongoing commitment for Loch Roag and its users.

The Guides’ environmental efforts were the culmination of several meetings spent learning about the ocean, its inhabitants and produce.

This has earned them the Ocean Challenge Badge, a badge developed especially by Girlguiding Scotland to encourage greater interest in the environment.

To celebrate, they barbequed fresh salmon on the beach, donated by The Scottish Salmon Company.
