Gas Engineer: Stornoway

Salary:  £11.74ph to £12.28ph depending on skills/competence

With a network that covers more than 50% of the country we’re the UK’s second largest gas distribution business and our primary focus is to maintain the safe, reliable and efficient delivery of gas to our customers in 5.7 million homes and businesses. An opportunity has become available for the position of Craftsperson, based at Stornoway.

 

Salary dependent upon skills/competence but will be within the range £11.74ph to £12.28ph with significant payments for standby duties.

 

The duties of the post are multi-skilled with an emphasis on the role of a First Call Operative. You should, preferably, be qualified to a City and Guilds of London Institute or Scotvec equivalent standard, with appropriate ACS accreditation. Training will be provided to the successful applicant to enable them to carry out the servicing of LPG gas appliances and associated heating systems. Further training will be provided to participate (as required) in gas main laying, service laying and emergency/meter work.

 

The work is physically demanding and you need to be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a variety of outdoor environments. You will also need to be able to use IT field systems and achieve high standards of safety and technical competence. A current driving licence is also essential.

 

You will be expected to work variable hours and will be required to participate as required in a high frequency standby rota, so you must be adaptable and flexible, have good inter-personal skills and leadership qualities.
