Strong winds will continue to affect the Western Isles on Thursday.
A severe gale is forecast for the Uists where gusts of 65 to 70 mph may be experienced in exposed places.
In tandem with this, the very high waves seen on Wednesday will only very gradually subside, highlights the Met Office
At the same time, frequent wintry showers , away from western facing coasts, will bring additional hazards in the form of both snowfall and ice.
Ice and snowfall are likely to become rather more problematic for travel by morning.
