Hebrides News

A strong southerly airflow is affecting Western Isles ferry sailings.

Low pressure in the Atlantic is bringing a band of gale force winds to the Hebrides and north west for a period on Saturday afternoon and evening.

The MV Loch Alainn apparently turned back to Barra in the rough seas before reaching Eriskay this morning. Mid-morning sailings were cancelled. The vessel made a crossing at midday but later services were cancelled.

All ferry sailings between Mallaig and Lochboisdale are cancelled for today due to 45 knot winds on the route.

The Castlebay ferry depart earlier than usual to run ahead of the worst of the incoming bad weather. She will depart Oban at noon and the voyage is expected to be bumpy.

All sailings on the Sound of Harris route are may be disrupted or cancelled at short notice.
