Youngsters are in for a treat as Calanais Visitor Centre and Comunn na Gàidhlig (CnAG) join forces to present a Gaelic orienteering event.

Set against the backdrop of the Calanais stone circles, this unique archaeological challenge promises fun and learning for primary school children and is presented as part of Scottish Archaeology Month.

Sligheadaireachd ann an Calanais (Calanais Orienteering) takes place this Saturday afternoon.

The free-of-charge event offers children in P1-P7 the opportunity to explore the lesser-known Calanais II and III stone circles and all in Gaelic, giving them an immersive language experience while navigating the ancient landscape.

After the orienteering challenge, they’ll be warming up with hot chocolate and tray bakes.

Youngsters can email kathleen@cnag.org to secure a spot.

Scottish Archaeology Month is an annual celebration held every September that promotes public engagement with Scotland's archaeological heritage through a diverse range of events, including guided walks, exhibitions, and workshops, aimed at making archaeology accessible to all.
