Leader of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Cllr Paul Steele, has welcomed the news that
the Scottish Government plans to provide an additional £5 million funding for Gàidhlig
in 2025/26 in the draft budget presented to the Scottish Parliament.
This will raise investment in the sector to £30.5 million per annum.
Donald Macsween, chair of the comhairle’s Comataidh na Gàidhlig, said: “This additional
support for the language is very welcome, particularly at a time when the Scottish
Languages Bill is going through Parliament.
“We encourage the provision of increased support to the Gaelic-speaking communities
of the isles for these communities to survive and prosper. The Comhairle looks forward
to working with communities to maximise the impact of strategic, collaborative working
on the Gaelic Agenda.”
