The convener of the Scottish Parliament’s Cross Party Group on Gaelic, Angus MacDonald MSP, has joined calls for a re-think on funding for Pròiseact nan Ealan (PnE) - the Gaelic Arts Agency – which has been denied a vital core grant from Creative Scotland.

Mr MacDonald has written to Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop and Creative Scotland Chief Executive Janet Archer urging them to ensure funding for PnE is in place to allow staff retention and proper long-term planning.

Angus MacDonald said: “Clearly the decision by Creative Scotland not to award ‘annual client’ funding is extremely disappointing, especially when you consider the excellent projects PnE has undertaken recently, not least Gairm nan Gaidheal - the series of war remembrance events, which has been widely acclaimed.“

He added: “I’m pleased that local MSP Alasdair Allan has seized the initiative and is encouraging dialogue between Creative Scotland and PnE. A return to three-year funding is clearly the preferred option and I hope Creative Scotland give any proposal from PnE serious consideration.”
