The crew of Barra lifeboat is organising an event to financially assist the families affected by the MFV Louisa tragedy.

Crew members plan to hold a fundraising dance around the third weekend in May and are appealing for musicians willing to help out.

The crew said: "If there are any bands who are willing to come to Barra and donate their time for this very worth while cause, can you please get in touch as soon as possible."

The Castlebay-based lifeboat played a significant role in the search and rescue operation following the sinking of the crab boat off Mingulay on April 9.

Virtually every day since the accident, her volunteer crew have spent many hours involved in sea searches around the Bishop's Islands as well as around the coast of Barra looking for the missing fisherman, Paul Alliston.
