Over £50,000 has been raised to support the family of a Lewis woman who died following
a road traffic collision on the west side of the island on Friday afternoon.
Emergency services attended at the crash on the outskirts of Bragar.
Police said the collision involved a grey Renault Master panel van and a 32-year-old
female pedestria, Jodie Mitchell.
Ms Mitchell was taken to the Stornoway hospital where she died a short time later.
A donation page has been set up atGoFundMe in memory of the “beautiful mum” from
South Bragar.
The fundraiser says: We would all like to show the family our support.
“Jody was taken away too soon while the family try to process the loss of a beautiful
mum, daughter, sister and auntie, cousin and friend we can show our support by covering
any financial costs and help them get through this difficult time.”
The road was closed as the police team examined the scene and re-opened around 3.10am
on Saturday morning.
The driver of the van was not injured.
Sergeant Neil Macdonald said: “Our thoughts are with Jodie's family and they have
asked for privacy at this difficult time.
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are keen to speak
to anyone driving on the road around the time of the crash to get in touch.
"Please also check your dash-cams and if you have any footage that could help with
our investigation then make contact with officers."
