Funding to help local fishermen 23/7/14
The latest round of financial help announced by the Scottish Government for the fishing
industry includes £377,417 for a West of Scotland survey to check the stocks of
demersal or seabed fish such as cod or monkfish.
The stock survey by the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation which will benefit fishermen
Western Isles and down the west coast.
In addition, more than £6,000 in grants to individual vessels in the Western Isles
was also announced.
It includes £4,600 for the MV Shiegra based in Lewis towards a total £11,500 investment
in a new net drum.
The MFV Joanna, based on Barra, has been offered a £742 grant as part of the boat’s
plan to install a class A AIS system costing £1,885.
Another Barra vessel, MV Aquarius, was awarded £964 towards a £2,411 AIS system.
The EFF aims to support the sustainable development of fisheries and provided capital
investment to support the sea fishing, aquaculture and fish processing industries.
Scottish Government support is utilised alongside EU funding, while successful applicants
are also required to make a contribution.
