Fuel prices 28/7/10
Sirs,
It is indeed good news that our MSP is "keeping up the pressure" on the government on reduced fuel taxes.
Indeed had he listened to the BBC Election debate with Brian Taylor he would have
heard his colleague Angus Brendan telling us that he had spent years "running round
in circles" [ achieving nothing] on this issue -
Had he listened to the broadcast he would also have been reminded by Donald John Macsween and I that the duty on petrol is not the only issue.
We have had at least three enquiries into the margins of Hebridean fuel retailers which have all concluded that they were not making excess profits which points the finger firmly at the wholesaler, who is charging differential prices to different customers.
Given that Alasdair Allan is "keeping up the pressure " on fuel duty, which we all welcome, perhaps he will do what Angus Brendan has failed to do and follow up the points made by Domhnall Iain and I on the Brian Taylor programme and demand a comprehensive "competition enquiry " on how a monopoly like Scottish Fuels can charge differential prices to different areas for fuel transported in the same tanker ?
