JOB DESCRIPTION
POST: Development Officer – Temporary Post 1 year.
37.5 Hours per week
SALARY: dependant on experience
REPORTS TO: Development Manager
LOCATION: Oifis Stòras, Daliburgh, South Uist
The overall purpose of this post is to support the development, delivery and marketing
of projects throughout the Stòras Uibhist area. The post-holder will be part of a
small team and have particular responsibility for supporting existing staff in delivering
the various development projects identified by the Board of Stòras Uibhist at present
and in the future.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The post-holder will work closely with the Development Manager and other employees
to help ensure efficient delivery of projects. Projects will include, but not be
limited to, drainage system and floodgate repairs, tourism, land management and environmental
projects, and estate assets/infrastructure improvements.
- The post holder will undertake project development activities including: planning,
costing, design management, procurement, consenting and stakeholder consultation.
This will be in conjunction with the Development Manager, full training being provided
to allow the post holder to undertake these project management activities independently.
- The post holder will provide support to the Development Team in the preparation and
management of funding applications and approvals, including claims preparation and
reporting. Training will be provided in the preparation and management with a view
to the post holder undertaking these responsibilities independently.
- The post holder will provide administrative support to the Development Manager including:
correspondence, arrangement of meetings, filing, record-keeping.
- The post holder will support the organisation in the eternal communications, including
social media, website updates, e-newsletters and consultations.
- The post-holder will ensure that proper and timeous information is given to the Development
Manager and Chief Executive of Stòras Uibhist.
- The postholder will undertake any other relevant duty or responsibility which the
Development Manager may need to allocate from time to time to ensure the efficiency
and effectiveness of its role. Significant permanent changes in responsibilities
will require agreed revisions to be made to this job description.
- Provide support to the Office Manager as required, including answering telephone,
mailings etc.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
POST: PART TIME DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
ESSENTIAL QUALITIES
- Highers (or equivalent), or above essential
- Ability to provide high quality reports and written communications.
- Able to work with financial costings and projections
- Excellent verbal communication skills, including participation in meetings
- Ability to manage and prioritise a varied workload
- Understanding of the role and functions of Stòras Uibhist within the Community.
- Ability to work in a modern PC environment including using MS Office, email and the
internet
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to provide a high standard of work to tight deadlines
- An understanding of the business, voluntary and community sectors of the South Uist
area
- Full driving licence
DESIRABLE QUALITIES
- Speak, read, write Gaelic
- Ability to access difficult terrain and buildings
- Willingness to work flexibly and do “out of hours” and “out of area” work etc
- Experience of grant funding applications or projects
- Website and social media experience.
