Strong winds and rough seas are expected in the Western Isles this morning.

 

Gusts over 50mph are expected to ease in the afternoon.

 

The MV Hebrides may not sail from Tarbert to Skye and then Lochmaddy due to the weather, said Cal Mac.

 

The Stornoway ferry may stay in port until the afternoon.

 

The MV Clipper Ranger left for Ullapool hours earlier than usual last night to try and get back before high winds prevent berthing in Stornoway.

 

This morning’s MV Clansman’s sailing from Oban to Lochboisdale and Castlebay is cancelled as the vessel is in the islands after racing ahead of the weather last night..

 

On Thursday, Castlebay primary and secondary schools closed early to get pupils home before the wild conditions deteriorated further. The sports centre and the library in Castlebay also shut as a result of the weather.
