Hailstones the size of marbles have fallen in the Western Isles.

The freak hailstone storm damaged windows and garage roofs in the north of Lewis late on Thursday night.

Shona Findlay of Habost was shocked to discover a big hole in the rear window of her dark blue coloured Ford Focus Zetec, parked outside her house.

Hailstones the “size of marbles” rain down in storm

She said hailstones were raining down “like bullets.”

Mrs Findlay said: “I couldn’t believe it. My first reaction was the wind threw something into the screen

“But after checking it was definitely hailstones which broke the back window.”

The hail storm only lasted about five minutes but there was thunder and lightning as well.
