Roles

Western Isles Foyer provides accommodation, information, support, training and advice to vulnerable young people, aged 16-25, living in the Western Isles. We’re currently looking to recruit additional volunteers to join our committee for the role of Chair, Directors and Special Directors (two young people in the capacity of service user representatives who have lived experience of social disadvantage or appropriate empathy with those who have).

We are committed to recruiting a diverse range of directors, and the roles of director and chair roles are open to adults of all ages.  If you’re willing to share your experience of working with • young people • project management • fundraising • marketing and promotion • health & social care policy or practice • strategic or social enterprise development to help us make life better for our service-user group we would like to hear from you. Prior experience of the voluntary sector (as an employee, volunteer or board member) would be an advantage. We’re particularly interested in hearing from women as they are currently under-represented on our committee.

Overall we are aiming to recruit committed and enthusiastic individuals who have the necessary skills and time available to fulfil this important role.  Preference will be given to individuals who live in the Western Isles (however, applicants who live out with the Western Isles will be considered providing they have Western Isles connections).

Western Isles Foyer committee members are charity trustees and unpaid Directors of the company and bear legal responsibilities in both capacities.  Due to the fact that we work with vulnerable young people all successful applicants would be subject to join the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme for a criminal records check through Disclosure Scotland.

Organisational Profile

Western Isles Foyer work with young people who are homeless, in housing need, and/or are subject to other significant social disadvantage(s). We aim to prevent and alleviate homelessness and social disadvantage via provision of supported accommodation and a range of support, advice and training. Including issues relating to • housing & tenancy issues • independent living skills • income maximisation and benefits advice • health and lifestyle issues   • and support to move onto/into education, employment and training. Our overall aim is to assist young people to live independent and fulfilled lives and become active members of their local community.
