The former Eriskay School could be converted into a backpackers hostel and community hub under new plans.

A local group - Urras Eilean na h-Oige (UEnO) - hopes to purchase the school and schoolhouse.

Eriskay School closed in 2014 and pupils now receive primary school education in South Uist.

A business plan involves developing bunk house accommodation in the building.

Operating toilet facilities round-the-clock with shower and laundry facility would also benefit tourism.

Plans also include having a welcome desk and information point, space for a heritage exhibition,  a ceilidh kitchen plus office and storage space.

An outdoor gym and children’s play area is another aspiration.

The council-owned property is valued around £70,000.

Councillors are being asked to approve selling the building to Ueno for £10,000.
