A man who presented a forged cheque at a grocery store has been sentenced.

John Macaulay of 3 Abhainn Ruadh, Geocrab, obtained £935 as a result.

Stornoway Sheriff Court heard he signed a cheque belonging to his partner and took it to a shop in Tarbert, Harris, in December 2014.

His lawyer said he had free access to the cheque book and believed he had her consent.

He has since repaid the money.

Sheriff David Sutherland imposed a £300 fine.
