The Armed Forces Day flag raising event took place in Stornoway on Monday.

Francis Jefferson of the Lewis Branch of the Royal British Legion raised the flag and it was then lowered to half-mast in respect and memory of MP Jo Cox who was killed last week.

Although Armed Forces Week finishes on Saturday, the flag will remain up until 18 July when there will be an armed forces parade at Perceval Square.

Comhairle convener, Norman A MacDonald, said: “It is very important that we remember those who are currently serving in the forces and those who gave their lives for the freedom that we enjoy today."
