The chief executive of the Fishermen's Mission has paid a visit to the Western Isles.

Commodore David Dickens met with local "mission man’ for the area, superintendent Finlay Macleod.

Finlay Macleod is on call to respond to fishermen in distress, often after boats are lost at sea or men are airlifted to hospital.

Commodore Dickens said: “Finlay has served the fishermen who work around Stornoway and their families with devotion and pride.

"Over the years he has responded to emergency calls for help, day and night, as well as providing practical and financial support to many families.

"It’s not easy to be on call 24/7 but Finlay is always within reach of those who need him most.”

So far this year, Finlay has dealt with 20 emergencies and found overnight ht gth accommodation for 14 fishermen.

This is alongside visiting 109 boats in harbour and undertaking more than a hundred welfare visits.

Commodore Dickens added: "The role of a superintendent with the Fishermen’s Mission is to ensure that fishermen and their families know they have someone to turn to in times of difficulty.

"We are very proud of the work that is being done in our name here in Stornoway and would encourage any fishermen who requires practical, financial, or pastoral support to contact Finlay."
