Fisherman dies after falling overboard 14/5/14
A fisherman has died after falling overboard his creel boat.
The man was working on the two-
Stornoway coastguards were alerted by a Mayday emergency radio call around 10.30am.
Island trawlers were among the several vessels which responded to the incident. They steamed to the scene to search for the man.
The Stornoway ferry, MV Isle of Lewis, also offered her assistance.
The man was recovered back on board by his colleague and airlifted by rescue helicopter to the Stornoway hospital.
A police spokesman said: “As a result of the incident the man has sadly died.
“Next of kin have been informed.”
