Company Profile

Hebridean Smokehouse a small specialist smokehouse located on the Isle of North Uist. It produces premium quality smoked salmon and shellfish products for high-end UK and international retail markets as well as for blue chip food service including many international airlines. The business also sells products by mail-order with many thousands of active clients. The company has an enviable reputation within the industry and has been endorsed by many media personalities and professionals.

Summary Job Description

Members of the fish processing team work under the instruction of the production manager. The job requires a good level of physical fitness as the work is carried out standing up and in temperature controlled environments and the post may be unsuitable for people with a condition that would prevent any normal activities like lifting or other manual tasks. The smokehouse is a modern food production facility and all the products produced in the factory are made under strict conditions of hygiene and cleanliness.

Training and previous experience

All training will be given so no previous experience working with fish is required but would be an advantage. The training is staged with new skills introduced as the team member progresses. It is a requirement that all staff achieve a minimum of Elementary Food Hygiene certification early on in employment, which is paid for by the company.

Minimum requirements

Candidates must at least have basic English language and reading skills, basic mathematical skills and be over the age of 18. Experience in food production or food processing is an advantage. We would encourage applications from candidates that have a driving licence as reliance on public transport may limit available hours offered.
