A baby has been born to the first Syrian refugees in the Western Isles.

The baby girl was born in the Stornoway hospital last week.

It was known her mother was expecting before she arrived in the islands in July.

Eight people including young children made up the two related families who came to the islands under an UK Government funded scheme.

A Comhairle spokesman said:”A baby girl was born to a family who already have children.

"Mother and daughter are doing well.”
