An emergency response was activated to save a Stornoway prawn trawler from sinking in harbour.

The MFV Wave Crest was taking on water in the inner harbour early this morning.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A port watchman report the flooding boat to coastguards around 11pm on Thursday and the emergency services attended the scene.

Stornoway fire crews rigged up pumps and quickly brought the inflow under control. They then pumped out the sea water from the hold of the 30 foot long boat.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fire crews were at the incident into the early hours of today.

Stornoway Coastguard rescue team provided additional manpower and back-up.

Stornoway RNLI lifeboat stood by the vessel in case the situation deteriorated
