Hebrides News

The 20th Hebridean Celtic Festival is underway with thousands of ticket sales for a wide-ranging programme of events.

Featured acts include Idlewild, Afro Celt Sound System, Treacherous Orchestra, the Karen Matheson Band, Shooglenifty, Chastity Brown, Le Vent du Nord, Raghu Dixit and Salsa Celtica.

HebCelt fans are urged to wear suitable clothing with a forecast of heavy rain sweeping across the Western Isles on Friday.

The Hebridean Celtic Festival will be in full swing when the downpour is expected.

But it needn't dampen the fun as the stage and audience areas at the festival site on the Lews Castle green are under cover, providing shelter to music fans.

Festival organiser, Murdo Maclennan, advised music fans to take heed of the wet forecast and wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

Mr Maclennan said: “It is important that people coming to the festival wear sensible footwear, have waterproofs and a jacket which can cope with rain.”

He pointed out the large tents in the festival arena are already “installed and the green is intact.”

The site has already suffered a lot of rain and the “ground was very wet when rigging the tent,” he added.

He said: “We are used to having rain over the past few weeks and a little extra is not likely to present any issue.”
