Council welcomes ferry fare extension 1/9/10
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has welcomed the extension of the RET ferry fare scheme to Spring 2012.
Chairman of Transportation Cllr Donald Manford, said: “This is very good news for business, visitors and the Western Isles public and I commend the Scottish government for their continued commitment to this innovative scheme.
“The increase in the numbers of ferry users during the period of the pilot scheme demonstrates the value of RET to the local economy.
It is encouraging that the Scottish Government, even when facing challenging economic times, have committed to this extension.
“I believe it is providing good value in providing an economic boost for some of the country’s most economically fragile areas. I hope that this will be recognised and following assessment of the pilot that a permanent scheme can be introduced.”
