Ferry timetables for South Uist and Barra are in chaos after an incident on another sea route.

The MV Lord of the Isles has been despatched to cover the Tiree and Colonsay routes after their own vessel suffered serious damage in bad weather.

While attempting to berth in a heavy swell, the stern mooring fairleads were ripped off the MV Hebridean Isles. She also sustained damage to railings.

No one was injured during Saturday’s incident it is understood.

The vessel returned to Oban without discharging passengers or vehicles, taking up berth space at the pier. She is presently undergoing repairs on the Clyde.

In the Lot’s absence, the Lochboisdale - Oban service is cancelled with traffic diverted via Barra or Lochmaddy - Skye.

The Castlebay ferry was held up to wait for Uist traffic today.

Wednesday timings mean South Uist passengers catching the Eriskay ferry at 5.25am to connect with an early departure of the MV Isle of Lewis.
