Hebrides News

Cal Mac is laying on extra ferry sailings for North Uist today on one of island's busiest days of the autumn.

The relief ship, MV Clansman, will be working hard with a livestock sale in Lochmaddy coinciding with a backlog of traffic from cancelled services yesterday and this morning.

Rough seas meant the MV Clansman did not operate tot he island yesterday and is in the wrong harbour this morning.

The vessel was stuck in Skye last night rather than in Lochmaddy so her scheduled 7.30am run is cancelled as a result.

The vessel's amended timetable with three inbound and two outbound trips will try to handle the additional traffic moving across the Minch for the rescheduled Lochmaddy sheep sale.

The event was postponed from last week after the usual ferry, MV Hebrides, was taken out of service following her crash in the harbour.

Around 2,500 sheep and lambs are booked in for the sale which now starts at the earlier time of 8.30am.

Meanwhile, the evening sailing from Tarbert to Skye is cancelled to allow the Clansman to operate the Lochmaddy runs.
