Ferry shuffle for annual refit

18 October 2021

MV Loch Seaforth is being taken off the Stornoway - Ullapool route for a three week period of maintenance.

MV Isle of Lewis heads up from Oban to Lewis, arriving tonight. She will undertake the relief Stornoway passenger service from Tuesday morning. Sailing duration is 15 minutes longer each way.

MV Hebridean Isles is the designated freight vessel and is scheduled to operate twice daily to partly compensate for her smaller size and restricted capacity. She commences duties on Monday evening. Her timetable allows for an evening run and an overnight crossing.

Seatruck’s freight vessel, MV Arrow, is due to replace the Heb Isles on the run for the last week of the Seaforth’s absence - between 1 and 7 November.

Cal Mac seems to have listened to protests from South Uist and Barra following last winter’s chaotic experiences when both islands received a wholly unreliable service with the placement of MV Isle of Arran.

This time, MV Isle of Mull is the selected vessel for Castlebay. She will pick up the Barra - Oban service this afternoon while the MV Isle of the Lewis covers Stornoway. Daily departure times have changed so passengers should double check their journey details.

The Lewis is set for her own drydock at the end of January so the Mull is rostered to take over until around 18 February.

For South Uist, MV Isle of Mull will run to and from Oban when the MV Lord of the Isles is due for her November overhaul .

MV Hebridean Isles is to pick up the Lochboisdale route - again to Oban - when the Loti covers the Tiree service between 19 Jan and early March.
