Many Western Isles ferry services will be cancelled or disrupted by heavy weather on Monday.

All passenger sailings between Stornoway and Ullapool are cancelled. The MV Isle of Lewis departed Ullapool ahead of her normal time on Sunday evening and will be tied up in Stornoway until Tuesday.

The MV Clansman's dawn sailings from Lochboisdale and Castlebay will not operate. The possibility of sailing sometime during the day will depend on conditions. The afternoon outbound run from Oban is on amber alert.

The MV Hebrides scheduled morning timetable from Tarbert to Skye and to North Uist has been put off.

The freight vessel, MV Hildasay,  is to depart Stornoway immediately after loading on Sunday night to run ahead of the incoming bad weather. She will also leave Ullapool early on the return sailing.

The Sound of Harris service is on amber alert.

Violent storm conditions are forecast for the Minch, bringing heavy seas, large waves and very strong winds.

Winds speeds up to 75mph may be experienced in the open water for a time.
