Ferry sailings for Uist and Barra are on disruption alert over Sunday due to gale
force winds affecting sea routes.
Strong south westerly gusts are forecast.
The first return timetabled sailings on the Sound of Barra route are cancelled.
The Uist - Mallaig service is cancelled. Instead the vessel will run a one-way sailing
with a delayed departure time on the longer route to Oban. The ship leaves at 3.30pm
with a 9pm arrival. No return sailing will take place on Sunday.
Uncertainty surrounds Monday’s timetable for the route. MV Lord of the Isles is due
to depart South Uist on Monday morning but, at the time of publication, it is unclear
if the vessel will reposition to Lochboisdale overnight to resume her schedule.
The Barra - Oban service is on yellow alert and faces disruption or cancellation
at short notice due to strong winds. Sailings on Monday and Tuesday may be disrupted.
Meanwhile, the passenger access system at Ullapool is currently out of action. Passengers
may be required to board via the car deck until the issue is rectified. The passenger
gangway at Stornoway is also broken and is expected to be out of service for the
foreseeable future with ferry passengers embarking and disembark via the car deck.
Neither gangway is the responsibility of CalMac but belongs to the respective port
authority.
