Winds rising up to 60 mph accompanied by rough seas and heavy swells are creating ferry disruptions across the Western Isles.

 

Cal Mac warns passengers to check before travelling to a ferry port.

 

Sunday disruptions

The MV Isle of Lewis remained in Stornoway harbour after her first return trip on the Skye route. Her second run is cancelled. The ferry is weatherbound in port until Tuesday.

 

Sailings across the Sound of Harris are on amber alert.

 

Because of the temporary Stornoway ferry diversion to Skye, the MV Hebrides’ scheduled 8pm Lochmaddy to Uig run on Sunday is cancelled.

 

Monday disruptions

All MV Isle of Lewis ferry sailings between Stornoway and Skye are cancelled.

 

Ferries for South Uist and Barra may be disrupted at short notice on Monday. The MV Clansman and the MV Lord of the Isles may bring forward their departure times if there is a chance of running ahead of the worst of the gale.

 

The afternoon sailings of the MV Loch Seaforth’s on her foot passenger-only service between Lewis and Ullapool also risk cancellation or delays at short notice.

 

Berneray - Leverburgh route also faces disruption or cancellation.

 

The scheduled 5.30am morning run from Skye to Tarbert was previously cancelled due to the Stornoway ferry diversion timetable.

 

Other services may be affected. Ferry skippers are studying update weather forecasts and will make decisions nearer the sailing time.
