Rush on to fix damaged ferry              13/2/14

The race is on to complete repairs to the damaged Stornoway freight ferry because her replacement is scheduled to leave on Saturday.

The  MV Clipper Ranger has been in drydock in Liverpool for over a fortnight after crashing into a pier at Stornoway harbour.

The MV Hebridean Isles was pulled off the Islay run to cover her absence on the Stornoway to Ullapool run.

However she also smashed into the same pier on Tuesday and was taken out of service overnight until the badly buckled and crack of deck on her internal portside cardeck was repaired.

Now the Heb Isles has been sailing extra runs to pick up lorries from Ullapool.

But a ferry shuffle across the Cal Mac fleet means she is heading off to undertake the Oban to Tiree service from this weekend while the MV Lord of the Isles resumes her South Uist to Mallaig timetable.

The Stornoway passenger vessel, MV Isles of Lewis is due back from her annual refit on Saturday and her temporary stand-in, MV Clansman, will go to drydock.

It is hoped the MV Clipper Ranger will be back in service early next week.
