The knock-on delay caused by the MV Clansman participating in a maritime search operation has resulted in the ferry running late today.

The Clansman immediately answered calls for assistance when what was believed to be wreckage of a stricken boat was found off Oban.

An oil sheen on the water plus a liferaft casing, a fender plus a shoe spotted floating in the sea, sparked the emergency yesterday morning.

No further debris was found following an extensive search around the coastline and the ferry was later stood down,

As a result, the Clansman is running late over her busy timetable.

Saturday’s sailing from Oban to Barra will be delayed by around a hour. The ferry also operated an amended schedule to Tiree to try and reduce the disruption for Castlebay travellers.
