Cal Mac has infuriated passengers by suspending bookings on the Stornoway ferry tomorrow (Thurs) and Friday.

The ferry firm warned: “Passenger numbers may be restricted for the 7am sailing on Thursday.”

Would-be travellers have been told the ferry firm is not taking bookings for the next two days.

Foot passengers have been asked to call back near the sailing time to see if there is space available.

The problem seems to be an exodus of travellers due to the school holiday weekend.

The MV Isle fo Lewis has been delayed in returning from her drydocking on the Mersey leaving the smaller relief vessel, Isle of Arran., on the Ullapool route.

Irate islander Iain Macleod said he wanted to add his wife onto an earlier booking for himself and his car.

But “CalMac had other ideas. With no notification either to the mobile number supplied at booking or on their website they decided that no further booking for passengers would be accepted.”

He said the regular ferry, MV Isle of Lewis was replaced with a “completely inappropriate vessel for the route and the time of year.”

Mr Macleod suggested the CalMac should have used the new Loch Seaforth instead of the Arran this weekend.
