There was no vessel available to operate the South Uist - Mallaig route today.

Both sailings were cancelled as a result.

A "technical issue" has delayed the designated vessel, MV Lord of the Isles, from departing her annual overhaul in drydock.

The winter South Uist - Mallaig service started on Saturday when the ferry was still in Birkenhead near Liverpool.

It is understood she understood trials yesterday and returned to her berth for more repairs.

The MV Isle of Arran is covering her runs but she was despatched to undertake a run from Oban to Castlebay and Lochboisdale following yesterday's storm cancellations.
