Extra drydock for ferry in middle of tourist season

9 June 2015

The Sound of Harris ferry is scheduled to head off for a surprise drydock this weekend, Hebrides News understands.

The MV Loch Portain is expected to be off route until the end of the month.

However, there is no word on her replacement.

Travellers are unable to book the Sound of Harris ferry from Saturday.

Just three months after her last overhaul, in the middle of the busy summer tourism season, the MV Loch Portain will be absent on the Berneray to Leverburgh run.

It is believe the vessel is to undergo upgrade work in response to new maritime rules.

Western Isles MP Angus MacNeil urged Cal Mac to clarify the situation as soon as possible.
