Strong winds and rough seas are causing ferry disruptions for the Western Isles.

Sailings on the Sound of Barra were cancelled today. Only one crossing operated before the rising wind led to the service being suspended. The first sailing on Wednesday is also cancelled while the rest of the day is subject to review.

The MV Isle of Lewis has brought her Castlebay departure ahead by two hours on Wednesday. The vessel will now sail at 6am. The return trip has been cancelled. The next sailing from Oban to Barra is 6am Thursday.

The Sound of Harris ferry service faces possible disruption in Wednesday.

The South Uist ferry service will not operate.
