Uist and Barra ferries are to run unscheduled sailings on Thursday to clear the backlog of traffic from today’s cancellations.

Bad weather disrupted sailings on the South Uist and the Castlebay routes.

The MV Isle of Lewis could not depart Barra until lunchtime. The return leg was cancelled and the vessel will remain in the mainland port overnight.

The Lewis plans to depart Oban at 6.30am.

Barra traffic also have the option to travel across to Eriskay on Thursday morning and out to Mallaig.

Meanwhile, the Lord of the Isles will operate an additional run for Thursday, leaving Lochboisdale at 10.30am.
