Ferry services face disruption due to an incoming gale.

The Oban- South Uist sailing is cancelled. The relief ferry MV Isle of Arran departed two hours ahead of timetable and will remain in the mainland port until 12.30pm tomorrow.

Uist bound passengers going through Oban can travel on the MV Isle of Lewis to Castlebay and then on the Sound of Barra crossing. Limited spaces are available and passengers should re-book in advance.

The Castlebay ferry is running ahead of the bad weather and hopes to make it back to Barra before conditions get too bad. The MV of Lewis departed at 6am and its service is operating two hours ahead of schedule.

Cal Mac warns the evening ferry between Ullapool and Stornoway is likely to be disrupted. If the ship does sail passengers can expect a bumpy crossing.

The overnight freight run will leave Stornoway a couple of hours later than unusual. The vessel will sail just before midnight to take advantage of conditions are easing for a few hours.

A slight lull in the weather overnight will be followed by gale force winds on Thursday morning.
