A spell of strong winds are forecast to hit the Western Isles from later today (Monday).  A force eight gale is due, touching severe gale levels on Tuesday.

CalMac has warned of ferry disruption because of the forecast

Due to adverse weather conditions today’s (Monday) afternoon sailings between Lochboisdale and Mallaig are cancelled. Tomorrow’s service is liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice.

MV Isle of Lewis departed Castlebay an hour earlier than timetabled Monday 9th September in a bid to run ahead of forecast strong westerly winds, gusting up to 40mph. The vessel plans a speedy 15 minute turnaround at Oban with her return sailing brought forward by two hours.

With strong winds gusting up to 42mph, Tuesday’s Castlebay service is liable to disruption or cancellation. Intending passengers have been advised to travel today where possible.
