High winds forecast for Wednesday afternoon are set to affect ferry services.

Wind speeds touching 50mph are expected in the southern Minch.

The MV Isle of Arran has cancelled her sailing from Oban to Barra. The morning departure from Castlebay operated as per timetable. Given the adverse forecast continuing on the route over Thursday, it is unclear when she will return.

The South Uist ferry is planning to run ahead of the adverse weather. The MV Lord of the Isles left Lochboisdale at the new time of 6am. She will depart Mallaig at 10am - four hours earlier - to return prior to the expected high winds.

The lunchtime sailing of the Loch Alainn from Eriskay has been delayed. Later runs also face disruption.

Cal Mac also warns the Sound of Harris route is likely to be affected.
