Ferry services face disruption by an incoming south westerly gale. Conditions are forecast to reach severe gale force during Saturday morning.

The MV Isle of Lewis departed Oban three hours earlier than schedule on Friday to run ahead of the bad weather. The vessel is loaded with supermarket supplies for Barra.

The Castlebay - Oban service is very likely to be disrupted in the morning.

The MV Lord of the Isles also changed her timetable to beat the approaching gale. The ship sailed to Mallaig rather than the longer route to Oban today. She also head back to South Uist earlier than usual. Saturday’s sailings also face disruption.

Friday’s last sailing on Sound of Barra may be disrupted by the deteriorating weather said Cal Mac. The morning service may also be affected.

The Stornoway - Ullapool ferry service may be affected with strong south westerly winds affecting the Minch. Cal Mac said the MV Loch Seaforth faces a heightened possibility of disruption to her overnight freight service. Saturday’s 7am passenger sailing may also be affected.
