A forecast of bad weather is set to disrupt Western Isles ferry services mid-week.

A force eight gale accompanied by rough seas is likely to affect a number of routes.

There is little chance of the MV Isle of Arran sailing between Barra and Oban in the forecast conditions.

Instead, the vessel will make a special sailing on Tuesday, departing Castlebay at 6am in order to return to the island before the wind speeds increase too much.

Southerly winds gusting up to 50 knots may also hit the MV Hebrides’ timetable between Skye, North Uist and Harris.

The Stornoway- Ullapool route may be affected until Friday morning.

The Sound of Harris ferry is also liable to be disrupted.
