A relief ferry covering the Castlebay-Oban route has developed a fault and will not take over the timetable as planned tomorrow morning.

The MV Isle of Arran is due to operate on the service while the regular ship, MV Isle of Lewis, heads off for her annual refit in Aberdeen.

The South Uist ferry, MV Lord of the Isles, will now carry out the sailing from Barra to Oban but will have first have to divert north to Lochboisdale.

The ferry sets off from Castlebay at the earlier time of 6am and calls in at Lochboisdale at 7.30am.

The Arran is expected to carry out the return timetable to Barra.

Being a slower vessel, the Arran’s voyages will take longer than usual, taking five and a half hours.

Until the 9 February the outbound departure from Oban as been delayed by 50 minutes to 2.30pm.
