Hebrides News

Rough seas and strong winds are disrupting a number of island ferry services.

Wind speeds of around 70mph in South Uist and Barra eased to allow ferries to resume sailings for a period.

Many routes are on yellow alert as the weather is forecast to deteriorate over the day.

The first Sound of Barra crossing was cancelled but the ferry later resumed operations with her skipper assessing local conditions on a sailing by sailing basis.

MV Lochportain did not run her early morning timetable but will sail midmorning. With the weather forecast to worsen, the afternoon schedule is liable to disruption.

MV Hebrides is running late while operating an amended timetable to clear a backlog of traffic following cancellations yesterday. The vessel was out of position for her normal timetable and was storm bound in Tarbert overnight. Her departure via Lochmaddy this morning was delayed by about an hour. The ship will not operate in the afternoon.

Sailings between Uig-Tarbert are cancelled with passengers advised to travel via Stornoway.

The Castlebay ferry is stuck in port today and tomorrow.

No service will operate for Lochboisdale until Thursday by the earliest, making it three days without a ferry.

The Stornoway crossing is liable to disruption or cancellation.
