Bad weather disrupts ferries                   25/1/12

The Cal Mac ferry MV Clansman has been unable to berth at Stornoway this lunchtime due to gale force winds.

The localised south easterly winds were too strong for the ferry to safely get alongside.

She had already been delayed by the bad weather on her crossing from Ullapool and has been forced to steam up and down the coast of Lewis for hours as she waits for a lull in the weather.

The ferry is expected to be full of lorries and vehicles because the freight ferry MV Muirneag did not sail last night due to the conditions.

The Lord of the Isles was also delayed due to adverse weather. She departed Castlebay at 9.30am and is sailing via the small isles. She is covering the Oban to South Uist and Barra runs while the MV Clansman has been tasked to replace the MV Isle of Lewis, which is in drydock in Liverpool, for the next fortnight.

Today’s last sailing on the Sound of Barra has been canceled.
