Stornoway ferry, MV Loch Seaforth, will be running late this morning after the vessel was delayed by an emergency incident.

The Seaforth was soon on the scene when a swimmer was reported missing at sea around midnight.

The Stornoway man was taking part in a solo Minch swim and was reported overdue in the dark.

The Ullapool-bound vessel diverted off course to assist in the search and rescue operation off Rubha Reidh, Gairloch.

The man was found safe and taken onboard the ferry before being airlifted to Stornoway.

The ferry resumed her freight run to and caught up on some time.
